Our only pointer/hound sled dog has been with Bruce since
the beginning. She is an excellent Gee Haw Leader and has
an excellent appetite.
She is Melissa's Lead dog when Bruce is not running her
on his team. Though
a tough pup, she has no problem coming in during the night
and cuddling up
on the sofa.
Click
Click is another smart female from the kennel of Iditarod
Champion Jeff King. THis will be Click's first Iditarod. She
is shy but pulls like crazy. She is a team and lead dogs.
During windy parts of the trail it is great to have her in
lead as her nick-name is "turbo." Click has a tendency
to gain speed around the corners - she needs to know what
is on the other side of that turn!
Cobb
Cobb is a 45 lbs. female from the kennel of
Peter Bartlett. Her siblings Jake and Payden are also on the
A Team. All three have very similar traits - they are CRAZY
and the eat EVERYTHING! They love to run, are friendly but
they have a "hyper" gene that I cannot describe.
We have high hopes for all three!
Thunder
Thunder like Vitus is an Iditarod Veteran. Thunder is the
only dog we have on our team that did not travel from Vermont.
We adoted Thunder from Jason Mackey (Lance Mackey's brother)
and he has been a great addition to our team. Loving, shy
but always willing to run.
Beans
Beans came to us in 2004 from the kennel of Jeff King. This
year, he has shown his maturity and is one of our best team
dogs. He appetite is amazing and he loves to run with with
his buddy Juneau.
Heifer
Heifer is also from the kennel of Jeff King and
she is a wonderful, happy dog. Bruce got her as a yearling and
she is related to Jersey, a Jeff King dog that has finished the
Iditarod in the last few years.
Kiwi & Maya
Kiwi (left) and Maya are Bruce's main lead dogs.
Both weigh in at about 50 lbs. which is large for our female dogs.
Both pups come from the kennel of Jon Little, a well known musher
from Kasilof AK. They started their sled dog career with Bruce
as they came to Vermont as puppies. Though not from the same liter,
they are like sisters. Both are smart, loving and good eaters
and have been Bruce's main lead dogs since MacKenzie retired.
Vitus
Vitus is appropriately named - for his namesake
was a very strong headed Russian Explorer. Vitus is an 8 year
old male from the Kennel of Jon Little - He is a veteran to the
Iditarod and has been with Bruce for 5 years. Not only is Vitus
our main wheel dog, he is also the Sire to all of our puppies.
He never wants to stop running and will be the first dog yanking
the gang line when the team is stopped He is of the Red Dog Line,
one of Paul Gephardt's most famous dogs.
